Tom Brady, arguably the best quarterback to play in the NFL, spoke out about Bill Belichick's hiring as the next head coach of the UNC football program. The seven-time Super Bowl champion (who won six with Belichick as his head coach) had high praise and left Tar Heel fans hopeful for what's to come.
"They're getting a tremendous coach. Being in that locker room for as many years as I did, those guys are going to play very hard. He's going to coach them well. It's a great benefit for all those players that are going to that program, because they're getting the best coach that this NFL has ever seen, now he's at the college level."
Brady played for Belichick in the NFL from 2000 to 2019. It was also known as the "Brady-Belichick era." Numerous seasons amounted to various championship-winning seasons by the end of their partnership at the pro level.
The fanbase of North Carolina should be nothing short of ecstatic — a Hall of Fame coach is taking charge, hoping to flip the program upside down from the previous disappointing seasons that unfolded despite having elite players such as Sam Howell, Drake Maye, Josh Downs and Omarion Hampton.
The recruiting trail has already begun for Belichick and his general manager, Michael Lombardi. Holy Cross transfer Christo Kelly will join the team next season and has also extended an offer to Penn University transfer Malachi Hosely as well as shown interest in South Alabama transfer Fluff Bothwell.
However, Belichick is set to hold visits such as former top-75 prospect Caleb Odom from Alabama and former Michigan State trasnfer Aziah Johnson but this is just a start to what's going to be an eventful offseason following the Fenway Bowl on Saturday, December 28.
North Carolina's football program is evolving in front of our eyes — all thanks to Belichick. Brady's words may age like fine — which Carolina fans should hope for.
It all begins on August 30, 2025, against TCU at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
