Bill Belichick has officially landed his first commitment from a student-athlete via the transfer portal.
After completing his official visit to Chapel Hill on Monday, former Holy Cross offensive lineman Christo Kelly has committed to the UNC football program. He comes to North Carolina with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
In two seasons at Holy Cross, Kelly has started 22 games at the center position. He is coming off a season in which he earned All-Patriot League Football First Team honors.
The Tar Heels haven't been shy about wanting to add talent to both their offensive and defensive lines, as general manager Michael Lombardi made it a point of emphasis when he spoke to the media last week. North Carolina gets off to a great start by landing Kelly, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound presence who should immediately be able to slide into the center position for the UNC football program next fall.
While it's a great start, there's still plenty of work for Belichick, Lombardi and the UNC football program to do. Don't be surprised if the Tar Heels add more offensive lineman over the next few weeks, along with some other talent that can help bolster the roster via the transfer portal.
