Have no fear, Bill Belichick has officially signed his contract as the next head coach of the UNC football program.
While the media made a big deal over Belichick not signing his deal as of yet, that speculation (at least) can be put to rest. North Carolina finalized its employment agreement with Belichick on Thursday, following a six-week window in which the parties (North Carolina and Belichick) were operating under a non-binding term proposal agreement.
The agreement notes that it is backdated to December 12, 2024 regardless of when it was officially signed. Belichick provided his signature on January 22, 2025, while athletic director Bubba Cunningham and chancellor Lee Roberts (along with a Board of Trustees representative) signed the document on Thursday.
The university provided a copy of the agreement, one that can be found by going here.
Now, let's be clear: we're not naive. Just because the contract is signed doesn't mean that Belichick can't pursue potential NFL job openings. However, at this current point, the contract is signed and all indicators continue to point toward Belichick being heavily invested in his new role, as the NFL speculation seems to be just that at this current point in time.
Things can certainly change, but for now, enjoy the fact that Belichick's contract is officially signed. One step closer to seeing the six-time Super Bowl Champion on the sideline this fall at Kenan Stadium.
