UNC Baseball standout earns another All-American honor
Another day, another Freshman All-American honor for UNC baseball standout Vance Honeycutt, who continues to earn honors for his incredible season.
Just days after earning Freshman All-American honors from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, UNC baseball standout Vance Honeycutt earned even more notable recognition for his outstanding season.
To add to his list of accolades, Honeycutt was named to the NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team. The Diamond Heels’ center fielder was one of 17 players selected for first-team honors, and one of just 34 players in the entire country to earn All-American honors.
Honeycutt had an incredible first season in Chapel Hill, as he became the first Tar Heel ever to record a 20-20 season. His 25 homers set a new program record, as he surpassed Devy Bell’s previous mark that stood for 36 seasons.
Not only was Honeycutt a star for North Carolina, but ranks among one of the top freshmen in the entire country. He ranked second among all NCAA Division I freshmen in home runs (25), runs (66), and total bases (166) while finishing third in slugging percentage (.672) and stolen bases (29).
Simply put: Honeycutt was a human highlight reel during his first collegiate season. He quickly put his name, as he set the tone for what has the makings of what could be a tremendous career for the UNC baseball program.
Although the 2022 season didn’t end as planned, the program is certainly excited that they have a guy like Honeycutt patrolling center field for at least the next two seasons in Chapel Hill.
