The UNC baseball program lives to see another game, thanks in large part to an incredible play from centerfielder Vance Honeycutt.

Vance Honeycutt saved the day… and essentially the UNC baseball program’s season.

In the ninth inning of their elimination game against Georgia, the Tar Heels’ four-run lead almost vanished. The Bulldogs pushed across three runs, and almost tied the game, but Honeycutt had other ideas.

With one out and no one on, Georgia’s Josh McAllister got a hold of a Connor Bovair pitch and drilled it deep to center field. Fortunately, Honeycutt made a SportsCenter Top 10 play to rob the Bulldogs’ third baseman of a potential game-tying home run.

If you haven’t seen it already, we suggest that you check it out below!

Honeycutt has been phenomenal during his freshman season with the UNC baseball program, and this big-time play goes to show that he’s more than ready for the spotlight. You could make the case that given the circumstances, this outstanding grab will go down as one of the best catches ever made at Boshamer Stadium.

If Honeycutt doesn’t make the play, it’s very likely that the ball ends up going over the fence for a game-tying homer. At a time when the momentum was shifting in the Bulldogs’ favor, it was Honeycutt who made sure he did everything he could to help keep his team’s season alive.

A huge win for the UNC baseball program was capped off by this spectacular play. Hopefully, it will lead to more momentum for the Tar Heels as they play to keep their season alive against VCU.
