After his incredible freshman season, the UNC baseball program should be very excited to see what Vance Honeycutt has in store moving forward.

The UNC baseball program’s season ended on Sunday in heartbreaking fashion, but there are a lot of positives to look at regarding the future of the Diamond Heels.

When you take a look at the future of Scott Forbes’ team, it’s without a doubt that Vance Honeycutt is the first name that comes to mind.

It’s not often that freshmen burst onto the scene and absolutely dominate on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, but Honeycutt came in right away and did just that.

Honeycutt became the first UNC baseball ever to record a 20-20 season. He set the program record with 25 homers, breaking Devy Bell’s previous record of 24 which has stood for 36 years.

The Salisbury, North Carolina native was named the ACC Tournament MVP, and also earned Freshman All-American honors for the 2022 season. From game-saving catches to big-time home runs, Honeycutt was a major factor in the Diamond Heels’ success this season.

Of course, it’s rather easy to dwell on the heartbreaking loss that ended the Diamond Heels’ outstanding season, but it’s even more exciting to think of the fact that we get to watch Honeycutt in a Tar Heels uniform for at least another two seasons.

All eyes will be on Honeycutt for his sophomore season, as he’ll look to replicate his success in the middle part of the Tar Heels offense moving forward.

After what Honeycutt did for the UNC baseball program this season, it’s exciting to think of the possibilities of what he can accomplish throughout the remainder of his collegiate career.
