Vance Honeycutt and Alberto Osuna became the first players in UNC baseball history to accomplish this impressive offensive feat.

It’s been a year of the long ball for the UNC baseball program, as the team’s home run outburst has been led by the duo of Vance Honeycutt and Alberto Osuna.

When he isn’t making highlight-reel catches, Honeycutt has been simply lethal with the bat. He is now tied for the most home runs in a single season by a Tar Heel, and one just more would give him sole possession of the record.

Osuna, who hits right behind Honeycutt in North Carolina’s lineup, has been a steady power presence as well. The former JUCO product hit his 20th homer of the season on Sunday night, which put the duo in the UNC baseball record books.

The duo of Honeycutt and Osuna become the first pair of North Carolina teammates to record 20+ home runs in a single season. It’s impressive to think that the Tar Heels were able to have not just one, but two of the best power hitters in the country in the middle of their order throughout the 2022 season.

Both players were great additions to the UNC baseball program, as their presence in their first years on campus has certainly played a major factor in the team’s success.

It’s even better that both players are underclassmen (Honeycutt is a freshman while Osuna is considered a transfer sophomore) so it’s possible that these two players could torment opposing pitching in the middle of Scott Forbes’ lineup for at least a couple more seasons.
