Class of 2020 prospect discusses recent visit with Tar Heels

The 2017-18 college basketball season is just weeks away, and things are starting to heat up on the recruiting trail for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Just a few days removed from the Nassir Little commitment, Roy Williams and company are gearing up for a visit from four-star class of 2018 prospect Darius Days.

North Carolina also appears to be gaining momentum in the recruitment of five-star power forward Simisola Shittu.

Shittu has over 20 scholarship offers, but all indications suggest that his final two schools are North Carolina and Vanderbilt, both of which will host him for upcoming official visits.

The Tar Heels recently hosted a four-star prospect from the class of 2020 as well.

Mark Williams, a 6-foot-11, 195-pound power forward from Norfolk, Virginia, was in Chapel Hill on September 23rd for the Tar Heels’ game against the Blue Devils. Although North Carolina lost on the gridiron, Williams seems to have enjoyed himself, particularly on the hardwood.

"“It was good,” Williams told Rivals. “We played pickup with the guys and experienced play at the highest level. Rasheed Wallace was even playing. We played games to seven for about an hour and a half.”“I learned that they are big on the concept of family,” Williams said. “The players always helped their teammates up and talk to each other a lot. Even at the football game, the students were introducing themselves to me and were telling me all about the school.”"

Although Williams is only a sophomore, he’s beginning to get attention from college coaches and receive scholarship offers. The majority of interest he’s seen to this point has come from ACC schools including Clemson and Virginia; the latter of which has already visited the talented big man.

Williams is the No. 25 prospect in the class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 6 power forward in the class and a top-5 player in the state of Virginia.
