North Carolina gets commitment from five-star prospect Nassir Little

Five-star small forward Nassir Little has committed to play basketball for the University of North Carolina.

The announcement came on Wednesday night via Twitter, when Little tweeted his decision to join the Tar Heels’ 2018 recruiting class that already boasts five-star combo guard Coby White and top-75 point guard Rechon Black.

Little, a native of Orlando, Florida, is the Tar Heels’ first top-10 recruit since Justin Jackson in 2014.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound wing averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game as a junior, leading Orlando Christian Prep to the Class 3A state title.

Little is the No. 9 prospect in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s ranked fourth among small forwards in the class and he’s the No. 2 player in the state of Florida.

Before Little’s commitment to North Carolina on Wednesday night, the 247Sports Crystal Ball unanimously favored the Tar Heels, who collected 100 percent of predictions from site experts.

Many of those predictions came within the last few days, as North Carolina began to pick up momentum in Little’s recruitment. A number of site experts recently changed their prediction from other schools to North Carolina, further evidencing that the Tar Heels had taken a stronghold in Little’s recruitment.

It’s an important commitment for a North Carolina program that has struggled to secure five-star recruits over the last few years. Not only will Little serve as an important piece on the court, but perhaps as advocate for other elite prospects to become Tar Heels.

Now Roy Williams’ attention shifts to five-star power forward Simisola Shittu, who also lists North Carolina as one of his finalists. As of now, it appears that North Carolina and Vanderbilt are the two favorites to land the top-10 prospect.
