UNC’s latest transfer portal entry is easily the least surprising one yet

Let's face it: this addition last offseason didn't make much sense at all to begin with.

Ivan Matlekovic was added as a late addition to last season's roster, a move that was questionable given his lack of playing time during his freshman season at High Point.

Hubert Davis and his staff aimed for Matlekovic to be a developmental project, hoping that he could at least serve as a capable backup big man. However, he appeared in just four games as a Tar Heel, logging seven total minutes in garbage time before suffering a season-ending hand injury.

To no surprise, Matlekovic is exploring other options in hopes of finding a bigger role elsewhere.

Ivan Matlekovic enters the transfer portal

Inside Carolina broke the news on Wednesday night that Matlekovic was entering his name in the transfer portal. He became the latest player from last year's squad to enter his name, as many are surprised it took this long for this decision to happen.

With Matlekovic's entry into the portal, here's the updated list of the other former Tar Heels who have entered their name into the free agency of college athletics:

Current UNC transfer portal entries

Isaiah Denis

Derek Dixon- committed to Arizona

Jonathan Powell- committed to Pittsburgh

James Brown

Zayden High- committed to South Florida

Kyan Evans

Luka Bogavac- committed to Oklahoma State

When the UNC basketball program elected to fire Hubert Davis, roster change was expected to occur. While some players have elected to return for another season, others are vying for a fresh start elsewhere, looking at every opportunity out there to find the best situation for them.

Based on the guys who currently haven't determined their future just yet, it's likely that none will actually be returning to North Carolina (barring any last minute changes). Get ready for a fresh new roster in Chapel Hill for the start of the Michael Malone era this upcoming season.
