Zayden High earned his stripes down the stretch during his sophomore season at North Carolina.
After Hubert Davis was relieved of his duties as the head coach of the UNC basketball program, High, like many of his former teammates, entered his name into the transfer portal. While the hope was that High would return, looking to build on what he accomplished late in the season, his career path is taking him elsewhere starting next season.

High announced on social media that he has committed to Chris Mack and the South Florida Bulls. He will head to South Florida with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
As North Carolina went down the stretch this past season, High became more vital to Hubert Davis' rotation, providing steady contributions. He averaged 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest over UNC's final seven regular-season games, knocking down 52.5% of his shot attempts.
In High’s first career start against Pittsburgh, High set career highs in minutes (32), points (15), and rebounds (7). Just a few days later, High put together a double-double performance against NC State, a game where he was literally the lone bright side in a lopsided loss.
After his emergence, it was expected that other teams would be interested in High's services, especially given the need for frontcourt depth across the country. High likely had opportunities to not only earn more playing time, but also capitalize on NIL funding as well, something that would've been tough for North Carolina to match.
While some cite the off-court issue that kept him away from the team for a year, Zayden High is a guy who worked his way back and gave everything he had each and every time he stepped foot on the basketball court. Hopefully, his new landing spot will allow him to reach his full potential as a basketball player, with that opportunity right in front of him now.
