UNC makes another cut as Adan Diggs trims his recruitment down to seven programs

When Adan Diggs decided to reclassify to the Class of 2027, Michael Malone and the Tar Heels wasted no time jumping into his recruitment.

Regardless of his graduating class, Diggs is likely a top-10 overall recruit among high school qualifiers. Even after he made the jump to join this year's graduating class, Diggs is still regarded as the No. 1-ranked shooting guard this cycle has to offer, and now, his recruitment has started to heat up.

Adan Diggs narrows his recruitment down to seven schools

Joe Tipton of Rivals was the first to reveal Diggs' list of seven finalists. North Carolina made that cut, being one of two ACC programs to still be in the mix.

In all honesty, there aren't any real "surprises" in his narrowed down list:

Arkansas
Arizona
Duke
Kansas
Kentucky
North Carolina
USC

Before we all get our hopes up, let's take a minute to realize that UNC is currently not the perceived frontrunner in this particular recruitment.

The 6-foot-4 senior from Millennium High School in Arizona, Diggs is projected by many to be leaning toward staying within his home state. His lone scheduled official visit at the moment is to Arizona, one that will bring him to their campus on September 25.

While the expectation is that Diggs will visit each of his other finalists, there's also a chance that Diggs could pull a NaVorro Bowman Jr. and commit to his preferred destination after making the one official visit.

Thursday was an extremely busy day in terms of recruiting news for Malone and the UNC basketball program. Bowman Jr.'s commitment to Dan Hurley and UConn crossed a five-star recruiting target off the board, but that news was followed by very positive news from fellow five-star talents CJ Rosser and Jordan Page.

It just goes to show you that the Tar Heels are putting in the work on the recruiting trail!

The vibe (at least on the recruiting trail) seems to be a lot different in the early stages of the Michael Malone era than its been in Chapel Hill over the past few seasons. Sure, UNC did bring in some top talents, but we haven't seen UNC involved as heavily with so many five-star talents as they have been since Malone entered the picture.

As he recently told the media, Malone wants the best players to come and play for the UNC basketball program, and he's quite frankly doing everything he can to ensure that happens.

North Carolina might have some ground to make up in this particular recruitment, but the good news is that the interest is definitely mutual. You can't make up ground if you're not in the mix, as UNC still has time to make a strong push to land Diggs over time.

Give UNC's staff credit: they are putting in the work on the recruiting trail in an effort to shape the future of Carolina basketball to be one that includes a ton of star-studded talent calling the historic Dean Smith Center their future basketball home.
