North Carolina is emphasizing honoring its history during the 100th season of Kenan Stadium.
From giving the program's hall of famers (both college and pro) a permanent spot in the stadium to making awesome improvements that will enhance the game-day experience for fans show that UNC is really embracing the tradition that has led us to this point.
Fittingly, the uniforms the Tar Heels will be wearing on Saturday afternoon will pay homage to one of the greatest teams in program history.
UNC to wear the 1980s throwback uniforms for its clash with Notre Dame
The UNC football program revealed its uniform selection for Saturday's big-time matchup against No. 3-ranked Notre Dame, choosing the 1980s throwbacks.

North Carolina hasn't had much success against top-five-ranked teams (and even worse fortune against teams that claim a top-three ranking), but that won't stop the Tar Heels from attempting to pull off a win that would arguably be the biggest regular-season victory in program history.
No pressure, of course!
The 1980 season was a special one in Carolina football history, one where the Tar Heels posted an 11-1 record.
At the time, the program was in its third year under head coach Dick Crum. North Carolina went 6-0 in conference play, kept six opponents from scoring a touchdown, and outscored them 281 to 123. They won the ACC championship and finished the season ranked No. 10 in the final AP Top 25 Poll.
Individually, the 1980 squad featured star power. From the two-headed monster in the backfield (Amos Lawrence and Kelvin Bryant) to a fierce defensive player now considered the GOAT of his craft (Lawrence Taylor), this team had it all.
The UNC football program continues to ensure this group is always remembered, as the retro uniforms add a nice touch whenever the Tar Heels wear them.
Now, let's hope this year's team channels that 1980 squad as they battle for a huge victory on Saturday afternoon.
