UNC expected to get a visit from intriguing recruit with serious NFL bloodlines

The Tar Heels got a late start in his recruitment, but that doesn't seem to matter at this point.

When UNC extended an offer to five-star talent NaVorro Bowman Jr., the hope was that they weren't too late to the part in terms of impacting his recruitment.

The Tar Heels offer to Bowman Jr. came on July 23, officially putting North Carolina in the mix for one of the high-rising prospects that the Class of 2027 has to offer.

While we got a bit of a scare this morning in terms of his recruitment, the updated information that was revealed goes to show that UNC is still very much in the thick of things.

UNC is expected to receive a visit from five-star NaVorro Bowman Jr.

On Monday, Sam Kayser of League Ready revealed a list of official visits that Bowman Jr. has set up to this point.

In total, four programs earned a spot on his upcoming calendar:

UConn: September 4th
Illinois: September 10th
Texas: September 19th
Arizona: September 25th

No sign of UNC on that list...

However, shortly after, Kayser revealed that UNC is expected to receive a visit from Bowman Jr., essentially stating that it just hasn't been set up yet.

Crisis averted, for now!

Currently, Rivals Industry Composite has Bowman Jr. tabbed as the No. 12 overall prospect in this graduating class. The 6-foot-3 guard is also ranked as the fifth-best guard in this class and the third-best prospect coming out of the state of California.

The son of former four-time NFL All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler NaVorro Bowman didn't follow his father's path to the gridiron but found his own journey on the basketball court. He has proven to be an elite scoring guard, averaging 22.5 points during his junior season at Notre Dame, a year in which he earned first-team all-state accolades.

Essentially, this update confirms what Tar Heel fans had been hoping to hear: UNC's late start in Bowman Jr.'s recruitment isn't hurting them at this point in the game. In fact, their emergence is actually adding intrigue to this particular recruitment.

Michael Malone and the Tar Heels haven't been shy with regard to recruiting the top available high school talent. Their goal is to lure in one of the top recruiting classes in the country, setting the tone for this new era of Carolina Basketball in Chapel Hill.

You'd expect that the Tar Heels are going to put the full-court press on multiple Class of 2027 stars, looking to add guys who not only address needs at certain positions, but possess versatility as well. Bowman Jr. is one of those guys who can bring that, having the ability to play both guard positions.

The scary thing is: Bowman Jr. hasn't even reached his full potential yet: he's still scratching the surface to just how good he could be down the road.

This is a good recruiting update for North Carolina, as they now work toward finding a time in Bowman Jr.'s busy schedule to get him on campus for a visit. Once he takes that visit, the vibe of Chapel Hill will help do the rest in terms of convincing him that UNC is the place to be.
