As of this writing, Michael Malone has been head coach at North Carolina for a little under a month. Since then, he and his new coaching staff have been on the grind in trying to fill out the roster and reel in some big-name commits.

Thus far, things have been pretty strong, with 5-star center Sayon Keita being the latest playmaker to hop on board. However, that doesn't mean there haven't been some hiccups along the way. With that said, Malone isn't forcing things and now is not the time for Carolina fans to doubt his work.

If anything, people should be doubling down on their support of him, as he's hoping to bring UNC hoops back to a level it needs to be at. That's what UNC legend Tyler Hansbrough has on his mind, as he himself has once again spoken publicly on how excited he is for Malone to be in charge.

Tyler Hansbrough doubled down on his belief that Michael Malone will turn UNC around

“I’m really excited,” Hansbrough said via an article from reporter Shelby Swanson. “I’ve said this from the beginning — kind of surprised we got him. I think he was a little shocking to a lot of people on the outside, but once you look a little deeper, I just don’t think we could have a better candidate. I really like what he does and what he brings.”

Hansbrough didn't hold back with his thoughts and while a couple of recruiting misses have been posted, it doesn't mean Malone isn't the right man for the job. He brings loads of experience to the program, of course including helping the Denver Nuggets win an NBA Finals title.

Malone also made a splash in hiring Chuck Martin away from Arkansas, as he's working to help Carolina bring in some new commits soon. Martin helped with Keita and he's also hoping to get things over the line with Mouhamed Faye soon, who is one of the top center targets remaining for the staff.

There are several centers being targeted, with Faye and Brice Dessert being the main ones discussed among the fanbase. However, Italian big man Luigi Suigo is now a new standout to follow closely. With all of that said, things have been busy for the Tar Heels and Malone is on his grind to make an impact.

Once next season gets here too, everyone will be ready to see what he can get done with a new-look roster, but Hansbrough has no doubt in his mind the UNC faithful will be thrilled with what he's about to get done in 2026-27 and beyond.
