The rumors keep swirling a bit when it comes to who UNC and Michael Malone are going to keep targeting, as there's work to do to fill out the roster. At center in particular, Carolina fans have had their eyes on Mouhamed Saye, Brice Dessert and others of late.
Tyler Hansbrough trolling Duke reminds UNC fans he's a living legend
However, is it time to start paying attention to Italian big man Luigi Suigo? That could be the case. Recently, Fox Sports Radio host Aaron Torres hopped on a podcast and dropped quite the hint that maybe, just maybe Suigi could make the move to Chapel Hill if he pulls his name out of the NBA Draft ahead of the deadline in late May. Whoa.
“I don’t think they’re done by the way,” Torres said of UNC's recruiting. “I think they’re going to get another international big man. By the way, the Luigi (Suigo) kid, there’s a Luigi kid. I don’t know his last name, he’s 7-2, 7-3, he’s in the NBA Draft - I don’t think it’s 100 percent he goes to Carolina, but if he does pull out, just Carolina fans, I don’t think you’re out of it let me put it that way.”
Italian center Luigi Suigo is now a new name for UNC basketball fans to keep an eye on
Well, this sure would be something. For now, Suigo is going through the NBA Draft process and he'll be waiting to see what kind of feedback he gets. In a new Mock Draft from ESPN, Suigo is headed to the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round at No. 36 overall.
If he stays within that range as a second-rounder, would he just play pro ball next season, or could a college program like Carolina get him to change his mind? That's totally unknown, but we're going to find out for sure what he does by the May 27 deadline at 11:59 p.m. ET.
With Henri Veesaar leaving UNC and for sure staying in the draft, Malone has brought in Cade Bennerman for depth purposes, while the addition of 5-star center Sayon Keita still has people talking. While that's exciting, Malone still needs to make a splash at the five. Faye or Dessert would of course be a huge get, but now that the door is open for Suigo to potentially join the roster too, it tells us that Malone is looking far and wide to make sure he's giving all sorts of top talent a close look.
