Although the UNC basketball program extended an offer to Class of 2025 standout Malachi Moreno on Monday, the Tar Heels' interest in him didn't just begin.

In fact, the first reported interest came on January 25, as assistant coach Sean May was on hand to watch him play about a month later.

After doing their fair share of homework on him, the Tar Heels have decided that he is a player they would like to have in their program.

Moreno posted about his offer on social media, one that came following the open recruiting period this past weekend. The Georgetown, Kentucky native had some strong performances for the Indiana Elite, as his 16 point, 11-rebound effort helped his team defeat Team Loaded NC.

Moreno, a 6-foot-11 big man, currently is viewed by 247Sports as the top player from the state of Kentucky. The four-star talent also comes in at No. 27 nationally in the Class of 2025 rankings, as his recruitment seems to be trending toward him improving his ranking when the next updated list is released in a few weeks.

This offer shouldn't surprise anyone, as the UNC basketball program has had interest in Moreno for quite some time. Although it took some time for the official offer to actually come through, it doesn't take away from the fact that the Tar Heels want him to land in Chapel Hill in the future.
