The UNC basketball program's interest in five-star forward Nate Ament isn't new.

In fact, the Tar Heels coaching staff has been keeping tabs on the Warrenton, Virginia native for a few months.

Hubert Davis made a trip to the John Wall Invitational in December to scout Ament, and the Tar Heels had three coaches (including Davis) courtside during this weekend's action in Texas during the open recruiting period.

Now, just a few days after seeing him play live, the Tar Heels have finally extended an offer to him.

Ament announced his offer from the UNC basketball program on social media, as he becomes the fifth player from the Class of 2025 to receive an offer from the Tar Heels over the past 48 hours. Although the Tar Heels have extended multiple offers this week, Ament seems to be a player that the coaching staff seems to want to prioritize.

In the most recent 247Sports Composite rankings, Ament is regarded as the top player out of the state of Virginia. He currently holds the No. 18 spot in the national rankings, as he is a player that could very well see himself move up the list, potentially closer (if not within) the top 10 at some point before his recruitment comes to a close.

"Pushing 6-foot-8, Ament is a guy who broke out on the national scene during the spring and summer of 2023 while playing with Team Loaded NC. While he's still a bit on the thin side, Ament is a mobile and skilled forward who has the skill and ball skills to play out on the wing where he has tremendous size. Or, he can be used as a small ball four man who opens up defenses and pulls other bigs away from the basket thanks to his ability to shoot from deep. There is a lot of projectable upside for Ament because of his overall size, athleticism and frame that he can easily grow into down the road. While he's not yet a finishes product and certainly needs to add more strength, he is a guy who already makes the game look pretty easy and appears to have a very bright future."

Multiple ACC schools, including Virginia, Duke, Florida State, Louisville and Virginia Tech, are involved, as this won't be an easy recruiting battle for the UNC basketball program to win. However, Ament would be a great fit in Hubert Davis' system, as he has the skillset to really thrive in that "stretch four" role that has become so pivotal towards the UNC basketball program's success.
