2024 NFL Draft Recap for the UNC Football program
The 2024 NFL Draft is now officially in the books, as we now know where some of college football's brightest stars will begin their NFL careers.
Although there was hope that a few more former UNC football players could be selected, only three Tar Heels head their names called during the seven-round process. To add to this, there was some speculation that two of these three players could've been Day 2 selections, but they ultimately ended up falling to the final day of the draft.
In case you missed it, here's a recap of all the action:
Drake Maye- New England Patriots (Round 1, Pick 3)
Maye didn't have to wait long to hear his name called, as he was the No. 3 overall pick by the New England Patriots.
The former UNC football star was the third quarterback taken off the board, as he followed Caleb Williams (Bears) and Jayden Daniels (LSU) at the top of this quarterback-heavy draft class.
Cedric Gray- Tennessee Titans (Round 4, Pick 106)
After Maye was selected, we had to wait a little while for the next Tar Heel to be called.
The next UNC football standout off the board was Cedric Gray, whom the Tennessee Titans selected early in the fourth round. The Titans got an absolute playmaker on the defensive side of the football with this pick, as Gray was one of the top linebackers in the country during his time at North Carolina.
Devontez 'Tez' Walker- Baltimore Ravens (Round 4, Pick 113)
Just seven picks after Gray was selected, Devontez 'Tez' Walker heard his name called.
Walker was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, as he'll go from catching passes from Drake Maye to being a top target for superstar Lamar Jackson.
Not too shabby!
