With the third overall pick, in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select...

Drake Maye, quarterback from the University of North Carolina.

The former UNC football superstar will officially begin his NFL career in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as he'll be called upon to be the next face of the franchise in New England.

Maye was the third consecutive quarterback taken to begin the 2024 NFL Draft, as Caleb Williams from USC went No. 1 to the Chicago Bears while Jayden Daniels of LSU followed by going No. 2 overall to the Washington Commanders.

Leading up to the start of the NFL Draft, there were rumors that a few teams were making strong efforts to trade up for the former Tar Heel. The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings were among the suitors, but ultimately couldn't find a way to convince the Patriots to swap picks.

Maye ended his time in Chapel Hill as arguably the best quarterback to ever put on the Carolina uniform. Over his two seasons as the program’s starter, Maye put together a ton of success while solidifying himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

The Huntersville, North Carolina native finishes his UNC football career with 8,018 passing yards, 1,209 rushing yards, and 79 total touchdowns. The UNC football program didn’t reach the goals they set out for during the Drake Maye era, but still, not many players in college football have made the impact that Maye has made in Chapel Hill.

Needless to say, Maye had NFL scouts (and other college programs) in awe of what he could do on a football field, as you could easily make the case that he has No. 1 overall size, athleticism and potential. However, the New England Patriots were fortunate that this draft features multiple elite quarterbacks, as Maye fell right into their laps with the third overall pick.
