After earning a spot on five-star wing Anthony Thompson's list of finalists, the UNC basketball program received some more good news regarding his recruitment.

The Hudson, Ohio native will begin his official visits tour by visiting North Carolina. The 6-foot-7, 185-pound forward is scheduled to visit Chapel Hill on August 22, as he's scheduled six total visits from the end of August to the end of September.

Thompson has been on the Tar Heels' radar for a few months now, having earned an offer from the UNC basketball program on January 5. He's a lengthy wing with an elite left-handed shot who features a high basketball IQ and can operate with what is being given to him.

North Carolina is the lone ACC school still in the mix, as the Tar Heels would love to add a dynamic player like him to its 2026 recruiting class. Earning the first official visit could mean something or it could mean nothing at all (simply could be how the schedule played out), but ultimately, it could give Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program the opportunity to make a strong impression that makes it difficult for the other programs involved to match.

The UNC basketball program will be hosting some top-tier talents over the next few months. It is essential that Davis and his staff find a way to get the players they best believe fit the program's future, and Anthony Thompson surely fits that bill.

All eyes will be on Anthony Thompson as he makes his way to Chapel Hill on August 22 to begin his official visits tour. Can the Tar Heels find a way to seal the deal before he even steps foot on another campus?

Time will only tell.
