Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are identifying recruiting targets from the Class of 2026, as their latest offer has been extended to the top-ranked prospect from the state of Ohio.
Five-star Anthony Thompson announced on social media that he received an offer from the UNC basketball program. The 6-foot-7 forward is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 9-ranked player from his graduating class.
Thompson has earned plenty of interest, as schools such as BYU, Kansas, and Kentucky have all extended offers over the last month. The Hudson, Ohio native currently also holds offers from Clemson, Michigan, Louisville, Michigan State, Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Iowa, Dayton, Missouri, Penn State, Marquette, Wake Forest, Stanford, Purdue, West Virginia, Texas, Indiana, and Illinois.
In case you want to learn more about why Thompson is regarded as one of the top players in his class, read what Patrick O'Brien of Phenom Hoops had to say in his evaluation:
"First, his ability to stretch the court and knock down shots with a smooth, confident release is impressive. He can pick and pop out, knock down shots from the corner with confidence, score off the bounce with his jumper, and has length to rise over defenders with ease comfortably is impressive. He is incredibly efficient from the floor and instantly creates a matchup problem, and you have to love how he plays under control and at his tempo. His ability to knock down shots is impressive and certainly should have the attention of many scouts, but that isn’t fully his game as he understands how to operate in what is given to him. He has handles to create, can body up smaller defenders, scores well over opponents in the paint with his 7’2 wingspan, and his ability to be so fluid in how he attacks is quite impressive."
While Thompson is not the traditional big that fans are clamoring for, he is a player who would fit in at the wing position for the UNC basketball program. It's safe to say that the Tar Heels won't be the last offer he receives, as plenty of teams are expected to be involved as his recruitment continues to heat up.
