Michael Malone is looking way ahead with 2029 standout Grant Duggins on his radar

The 2029 recruiting class might seem far away, but Michael Malone and the Tar Heels are already doing their homework for when this class becomes the headliner.

North Carolina is wasting no time showing interest in one of the state's top prospects, Grant Duggins. In fact, the Tar Heels welcomed him in for an official visit, showing firsthand how they hope to make an early impression on his recruitment.

While an official offer has not yet been extended, you could bet that one is on the way for this top-10 ranked prospect.

For those who keep tabs at home, it's safe to add Grant Duggins to your recruiting board under the 2029 class.

Sure, you might not have even started that column yet, but hey, now's a perfect time to do so!

Duggins, a Greensboro, North Carolina native, has received early offers on the recruiting trail from Florida State, Iowa, Kansas, NC State, and South Carolina. He's currently viewed as the No. 8-ranked prospect in this class and the No. 1 overall player from his home state.

How did Duggins burst onto the scene? Well, helping Greensboro Day High School go 36-2 while securing a state title during his freshman year surely helps!

To build on that, Duggins put together a superb summer, averaging 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks on 61.9 percent shooting for Team CP3 on the 15U circuit. North Carolina, among many other programs, spent time watching him compete this summer, as his AAU performance helped his stock soar.

The scary thing is, Duggins is far from a finished product. The 6-foot-10 forward has drawn rave reviews from scouts and analysts across the sport, including Travis Branham of 247Sports.

"Duggins has great feet and feel on the block with counter moves, he can put the ball on the deck and score off the dribble, he can fly off screens and hit shots from three, he's a good passer, he blocks shots and rebounds at a high level."

Tar Heel fans sure love the in-state products. As the Michael Malone era begins in Chapel Hill, many fans hope that UNC can be the preferred destination for homegrown talents moving forward, including Duggins, who has put himself in the conversation to be considered the best prospect in the state regardless of graduating class.

Duggins' stock will only continue to rise, but UNC is already laying the groundwork to make a statement in his recruitment. It's never too early to start building relationships with top recruiting targets, especially when those prospects are right in your backyard.
