The roster construction in Chapel Hill continues, as Michael Malone and the Tar Heels have added another standout via the transfer portal.
NC State fans, close your eyes, you won't like this one!
Matt Able commits to North Carolina
Former NC State guard Matt Able has upgraded this offseason, joining forces with the Tar Heels and Malone. He becomes the third transfer portal commitment that Malone has secured.
A 6-foot-6 rising sophomore, Able possesses a skill set that is absolutely coveted by coaches around the country. He is an elite three-point shooter, as he put that well on display during his lone season in Raleigh, a year in which he connected on over 37% of his shots from beyond the arc.
With Luka Bogavac and Derek Dixon departing Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels needed to add some shooting, something that Able is definitely capable of bringing to the table.
The pieces are starting to come together for North Carolina as they aim to build an immediate contender to kick off the Michael Malone era in Chapel Hill. The additions of both Able and Neoklis Avdalas (thus far) along with the return of rising senior Jarin Stevenson, the pieces are starting to fall into place, but there's still plenty of work to be done.
At this point, all attention seems to be focused on one potential returner who might be leaning toward entering the NBA Draft.
Henri Veesaar remains the center of attention (literally), as his impending decision will have major implications on next year's roster. If he decides to enter the NBA Draft, the Tar Heels will have to pivot, as waiting for him to make a final decision in mid-May might be the wrong move in terms of finalizing next year's squad.
The addition of Able is another big step in the right direction, as the pieces are starting to finally come together. Fans have been anxious, given it's been rather quiet since Avadalas' commitment, but don't worry, the Tar Heels continue to work and have a few more moves up their sleeves.
First it was Neoklis Avdalas, then we had a bit of a break between commitments. Terrence Brown got the ball rolling again, and Able followed shortly after.
Now, we just have to wait and see what else Malone and the Tar Heels have cooking.
