Let us start by saying that for now, no final decision has been made on UNC head man Hubert Davis. With that said, the growing expectation is that he's going to be saying goodbye to Chapel Hill sooner rather than later.

UNC potentially going after Todd Golden makes sense thanks to these circumstances

Once that happens, the Tar Heels and Bubba Cunningham are going to have to go all-in to find a replacement, with Todd Golden's name being thrown around quite a bit right now. From our chair, Golden would be a dream candidate, but if things go down the way we're worried they might, Cunningham won't be the only one showing interest.

That's because over at Kentucky, Mark Pope's future is also unknown, as there's a growing frustration among the fanbase and donors following the Round 2 loss to Iowa State. At Kansas, Bill Self isn't sure if he'll be back next season, as health issues remain a concern. If both those jobs open up, that'd present a bit of a headache for the UNC administration if Golden indeed turns out to be the top choice to replace Davis.

UNC fans are eyeing Todd Golden, but they aren't the only ones

There are other names mentioned early as potential candidates too. Understandably, Nate Oats, T.J. Otzelberger and others are on the list. There's been talk of 'keeping it in the family' for Carolina, but many think it's time to move on from that mindset.

Going with Golden surely would do that, as he's been brilliant with the Gators. Ignoring the loss to Iowa, you've got to take a close look at how he's been able to get Florida back to a level of dominance in the SEC. He's also a master recruiter, landing big-name recruits at the high school level and in the portal.

Because of that, you've got to figure that Kentucky and Kansas would be ready to give him a blank check if they end up needing a new head coach as well. For now, no changes have been made with these three blue bloods, but when it comes to college hoops, things can be flipped at the drop of a hat.

Would Golden even have interest in saying goodbye to the sunshine in Florida to take on a new challenge? Hey, we don't know the answer to that question, but despite what Jay Williams might think, there's still something about Chapel Hill that's always going to intrigue people.

The lure of the Tar Heels is hard to ignore and that could come into play if Golden gets a call from Cunningham. All of this is speculation at this point, but if the job does open like we think it will, the Florida head man is going to be a wanted man among the UNC faithful.
