Carter French made the absolute most of his final at-bat at Boshamer Stadium

Carter French wasn't in the starting lineup for Game 3 of the Super Regionals, but when his number was called, he was ready to deliver for his team.

The senior outfielder stepped up to the plate for the first time in the bottom of the ninth inning with his team trailing by one. Regardless of the outcome, French knew that this would be his final at-bat in front of the home crowd at Boshamer Stadium, as he was simply dialed in to make an impact.

Saying he made an impact is an understatement: his at-bat was pivotal in UNC's successful comeback effort.

French stepped up to the plate with the Diamond Heels down to their final two outs. Cooper Nicholson just worked an impressive at-bat that resulted in a walk, putting the tying run on base for the senior outfielder.

French's at-bat started with three consecutive balls, followed by a sudden pitching change. Most guys might've tensed up during that type of moment, given that the stakes were so high and the change on the mound might throw you off a bit, but not French, who showed how cool, calm, and collected he was.

In fact, in a visit down the third base line with head coach Scott Forbes, it was French who asked his head coach if he was good!

French took all the way on the first pitch from USC's new reliever, and decided to take the second pitch as well to run the count full. From there, French was looking for a fastball and got one, finding a hole into right field that resulted in a one-out single, allowing Nicholson to get to third.

Shortly after, Jake Schaffner hit a sacrifice fly to score Nicholson to tie the game, and two batters later, Owen Hull delivered the walk-off double to send the Diamond Heels to Omaha.

Bosh Magic delivers in the most epic way, sending UNC baseball back to Omaha!

Although he isn't necessarily known as an offense-first type of player, French saved arguably his best at-bat as a Tar Heel for his last at Boshamer Stadium. When his team needed him the most, French came through, as his single, as trivial as it may appear in the box score, is much bigger than the stat book will indicate.

After the game, French was asked about the ninth-inning comeback, one that he had the perfect response to:

"I was talking to Cam Padgett before the game about how this is our last game here at the Bosh no matter what. This is my last time playing baseball with this group, and I just think that over the years I've learned a lot from this sport. You can't get too high and you can't get too low in that moment. I felt we were so even-keeled and kept on plugging and it ended up working in our favor for sure. I think we're going to carry that onto Omaha and that we have a lot more baseball left to be played."

Let's not forget: this dude is the true definition of a student-athlete. While studying to be a future doctor, French has juggled being a student-athlete tremendously, being able to live out both of his dreams at the highest level.

The doctor delivered on Sunday afternoon, a moment that he will simply never forget.
