The announcement of Caleb Wilson's shocking season-ending injury served as devastating news for Tar Heel fans around the world, as we all thought the star freshman was nearing a return.
Unfortunately, Wilson suffered another injury, this one to his right thumb, as a pair of wrist/hand injuries shortened his freshman season at North Carolina.
UNC fans heartbroken for Caleb Wilson with his season ending in shocking fashion
Wilson has already undergone surgery on the injured thumb, one that he suffered while dunking during a non-contact practice drill on Thursday.
Wilson shares an emotional social media post
Ever since the injury news surfaced, fans anxiously awaited to hear from Wilson, a very popular guy on social media. Wilson wasted no time sharing his thoughts on the matter, as this post on Instagram is sure to tug on your heartstrings as you read it.
Along with a handful of photos showing some of Wilson's favorite moments this season as a Tar Heel, the Atlanta, Georgia native wrote a message to UNC fans in the caption of the post. Here's what he had to say:
"Can’t really put into words how special Chapel Hill has been to me, man. I remember my first time coming out that tunnel with nothing but hope for the future and the goal of having a great season. This place is truly special beyond words between the fans and coaches and my guys I’ve been so blessed to share the court with. I remember getting here in June with Isaiah and Derek with such huge hopes for what we could do and I feel grateful to say we’ve accomplished some of it… ESPECIALLY BEATING DUKE!!!ðŸ˜
But truly this has been one of the most amazing experiences and times in my life and I would not trade for anything even with the freak accident injuries as of late . I am so blessed to be a Tar Heel and no matter what it’s ALWAYS A GREAT DAY TO BE A TARHEEL! To all my supporters young and old I hope I’ve inspired you to know and see the impact you can make on someone’s life without even knowing.
Like always I’ll be back and definitely cheering on my guys tomorrow with my good hand!!!!
GO HEELS"
What hurts the most
While we all are upset that Wilson can't compete for the Tar Heels, especially now that postseason action is set to arrive, the worst part about this whole situation is this:
We've more than likely (barring a shocking development) seen the last of Wilson in a Tar Heel uniform.
Of course, we appreciate the time we had watching him compete as a Tar Heel, but we all wish we had more time to enjoy the experience.
As much as Caleb Wilson loves Chapel Hill, the UNC fan base loves him just as much (and probably even more).
