It's almost time for UNC superstar Caleb Wilson to see his biggest dreams come true. The first round of the NBA Draft is one week away and all signs are pointing to Wilson going in the Top 5 on June 23. For a little while, he has been heavily linked to the Chicago Bulls, with the Eastern Conference side holding the No. 4 overall pick.
UNC and Michael Malone add a marquee preseason matchup against storied opponent
In his new mock draft for ESPN, reporter Jeremy Woo once again has the Carolina standout going to the Windy City at No. 4. On top of that, though, Woo dropped quite the nugget, reporting that Wilson is making his way to Chicago in the coming days for a meeting with Bulls brass. If he nails things there, will it make him joining the Bulls a bit of a lock?
UNC fans can't wait to see where Caleb Wilson lands in the NBA Draft
"Moving up in the lottery (from No. 9) made life quite a bit easier for Chicago's new leadership, led by Bryson Graham," Woo wrote in his piece for ESPN. "Wilson remains the most likely player to fall to the Bulls, who can sit comfortably at No. 4 and see what unfolds in front of them. He is set to visit Chicago this week and is thought to be happy at the prospect of landing there, where he would immediately become the face of their rebuild and directly address a frontcourt need."
At this point, it's starting to feel like it'd be a bit of a surprise if Wilson doesn't make his way to Chicago. With the top three picks, that assumption has been that AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, and Cam Boozer will be the first ones to hear their names called.
Yes, the door could be open for a draft night stunner, but Wilson 'falling' to the fourth pick wouldn't be a big thing at all, especially if the Chicago higher ups are such big fans of his game. Just recently, Wilson made a passionate pitch to the Bulls, making it clear he'd bring the same kind of intensity to Chicago that he did while in Chapel Hill.
It's hard to overstate just how valuable Wilson was to the UNC community as a whole. From the moment he made his way to campus, there was an electric feeling displayed, and Wilson's love for the Tar Heels won't be going anywhere in the near future. He set multiple UNC freshman records, doing so with a smile on his face.
Of course, he suffered two unfortunate injuries late in the season which robbed everyone of getting to see him suit up in the NCAA Tournament. Despite that, Wilson's lone season in the ACC will always be remembered, and the UNC faithful are ready to support him wherever he ends up moving to next.
Plenty of signs are pointing to Chicago, where he'd follow in the footsteps of the one and only Michael Jordan. Hey, we're not putting any extra pressure on you there or anything, Caleb! But soon enough, we'll all see where Wilson ends up, but him donning a Chicago jersey starting next season just feels right across the board.
