Well, this is going to make North Carolina's pursuit of Dylan Mingo a bit more interesting moving forward. In recent days, excitement surrounding Mingo has skyrocketed for the UNC faithful, as a 247Sports prediction came in for Hubert Davis to land him.

Why Duke vs. North Carolina still reigns as college basketball's gold standard

If that happens, it's going to no question be a monster get for Davis and his staff. Leave it to the team over at Rivals to raise intrigue here too. This week, it came out with its updated hoops rankings, and Mingo is now the No. 1 point guard in the country, which is obviously awesome to see:

5-star UNC target Dylan Mingo is Rivals' No. 1 PG in the nation

There's a loaded list of talent among the Top 10 point guards in the country. It's interesting to note that 5-star Duke commit Deron Rippey Jr. is the No. 2 PG, so yeah, it'd be even more special if the Tar Heels are able to get things across the line with Mingo.

Things appear to be trending in that direction, but this recruiting race is far from over. Earlier this winter, a prediction came in for Mingo to commit to Baylor, which must have had plenty of people in Chapel Hill down in the dumps.

However, the New York product decided to push back his decision date, which opened the door for Davis to keep working on selling him on all the great things UNC has to offer. Mingo is probably taking notice of what 5-star freshman Caleb Wilson is getting done for the Heels too.

The 247Sports Composite has Mingo listed as the No. 2 combo guard in the country and No. 5 prospect overall for the 2026 class. Before you know it, the touted recruit is going to have to make this tough, life-changing decision. Nothing is official yet, but North Carolina is in a great spot to land the groundbreaking commitment. Might that come this week? You never know what might happen.
