UNC's top priority recruiting target is trending toward becoming a Tar Heel

The recruitment of five-star guard Dylan Mingo had gone a bit quiet...

Too quiet..

After it appeared that Baylor was the frontrunner, Mingo announced that he would make his decision on January 22, but ultimately decided to push that date back.

While everyone continues to wait to see where the top-10 ranked recruit will take his talents, Hubert Davis and North Carolina have continued to put on the full-court press to secure a commitment from arguably the best guard this recruiting class has to offer.

Based on the most recent development, the Tar Heels seem to be in a good position to do that.

A Crystal Ball prediction has been placed

The staff at 247Sports has placed a Crystal Ball for Mingo in favor of North Carolina. This marks the first Crystal Ball that has been placed since the last one, which favored Baylor, was taken down.

Coincidence?

Of course, it's vital to note that Crystal Ball predictions are just what the name says they are. While it's extremely encouraging to see that the 247Sports staff believes Mingo is Chapel Hill bound, we shouldn't bank on this being a guarantee just yet, especially given how his recruitment has played out.

Other potential suitors?

While Mingo has focused on a list of four finalists, a new suitor has recently emerged. John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks have jumped into the fold, as they would like to get the prize even though they showed up hours late to the party.

With Penn State and Washington falling behind, along with Baylor trailing behind as well, it could come down to North Carolina and Arkansas by the time his final decision is made.

For now, it appears that the Tar Heels have the upper-hand in Dylan Mingo's recruitment. As we inch closer to the finish line in this recruitment, the Tar Heels staff will continue to make Mingo their top priority on the recruiting trail.
