Not long ago, it seemed like the sky was falling in terms of UNC basketball recruiting - Dylan Mingo had one foot in with Baylor. However, after delaying his announcement date, it opened the door for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels to go all-in on him.

Hubert Davis rightfully calls out UNC for 'unacceptable' late showing vs. Syracuse

It looks like those efforts have paid off. While nothing has been finalized yet, news broke on Monday that Davis is on the verge of landing the 5-star combo guard, as a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction came in from out of nowhere for the Heels. So, will this get done soon?

UNC basketball appears close to landing 5-star prospect Dylan Mingo

We don't have to tell you that landing Mingo would be incredible for Davis. It would also mark back-to-back years where he lands a Top 10 player. It's safe to say that freshman Caleb Wilson has lived up to the hype and more thus far in Chapel Hill. With news of UNC being the favorites to sign Mingo, it's no surprise that Tar Heels fans are absolutely loving the latest update.

There are plenty more social media posts just like the ones above of people getting fired up just at the thought of Mingo wearing a Tar Heels jersey next season. He's officially on 'commit watch' and there's speculation that he could make his final decision by the end of the week.

If he does it leading up to the Duke game on Saturday, it's going to give UNC extra pep in its step to potentially post an upset vs. the Blue Devils in primetime. Mingo is ranked the No. 9 prospect for the 2026 class and No. 2 combo guard in the country per the 247Sports Composite.

He currently has a finalists list of North Carolina, Baylor, Penn State and Washington. His older brother plays at Penn State, but both the Nittany Lions and Washington appear to be out of this race. From our chair, it looks like it will be either Baylor or UNC, but the prediction from 247Sports has everyone convinced Mingo's going to be ACC-bound later this year.
