Coming off a tremendous sophomore season, UNC football standout Josh Downs is expected to be among the best players in the entire ACC.

The UNC football program only had one player make the preseason All-ACC team, but that single player is one that ranks among the best in the entire country.

Coming off a sophomore season in which he set North Carolina program records in receptions (101) and receiving yards (1,335), wide receiver Josh Downs was the leading vote-getter among all players selected for this preseason recognition. Not only was Downs selected to the team as a wide receiver, but was also voted in as the team specialist.

Downs has earned a ton of preseason recognition thus far, and rightly so. As he burst onto the scene during the 2021 season, the Tar Heels’ top offensive target has put himself into the conversation of being considered one of (if not the) best wide receivers in their entire country.

Expectations are very high for the Preseason All-American and Maxwell Award Watch list recipient, as he’ll be called upon to lead the UNC football program’s offense this season.

With Sam Howell departing for the NFL, North Carolina has some questions about the quarterback position. However, with a lethal weapon such as Downs in the mix, his presence and playmaking ability will be a valuable asset for whoever ends up throwing him the football.
