In UNC football recruiting news, the Tar Heels are officially out of the mix for this four-star linebacker prospect from the Class of 2023.

For most of the recent UNC football recruiting news, we’ve been fortunate enough to hear about good results.

In the transfer portal, Mack Brown and his staff earned commitments from two Ohio State players, Lejond Cavazos and Jacolbe Cowan. To add to that, the Tar Heels also made the top 4 finalists list for standout Class of 2023 defensive lineman Joel Starlings.

Unfortunately, the most recent recruiting news has not gone in the Tar Heels’ favor, as one prospect has elected to eliminate the program from contention in his recruitment.

Four-star linebacker Tony Rojas announced his list of finalists, one that does not include the UNC football program. The Fairfax, Virginia native is now focusing his attention on Clemson, Georgia, Miami, and Penn State.

Rojas was in attendance for the program’s annual junior day back on January 15. Just five days later, Brown and his staff extended an offer to the Fairfax High School standout.

According to 247 Sports Composite, Rojas is considered to be the No. 15 overall linebacker in his graduating class. He is also ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the state of Virginia.

Although it’s disappointing for the UNC football recruiting team that they aren’t still in the mix for this prospect, they’ll turn their attention elsewhere to find players who want to take their talents to Chapel Hill over the next few years.
