The UNC football program has now added another Ohio State football transfer to the mix, their second Buckeye transfer in as many days.

Another day, another former Ohio State Buckeye added to the UNC football roster.

After earning a commitment from defensive back transfer Lejond Cavazos on Monday, the Tar Heels followed it up by landing defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan from the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.

Cowan, a Charlotte, North Carolina native, will return home after his brief stint at Ohio State. The former 4-star prospect saw limited action as a freshman, as he recorded just three total tackles in his time with the Buckeyes.

Similar to Cavazos, Cowan was a former top recruit who was simply looking for an opportunity elsewhere. Fortunately for the Tar Heels, they’ve added two players that they believe can make an impact on the defensive side of the ball for the foreseeable future.

The 6-foot-5 defensive lineman comes to Chapel Hill with three seasons of eligibility remaining. As part of his verbal commitment, here’s what Cowan had to say about his decision:

"“This is truly a full circle moment. Not only was I born into and raised by a Tar Heel family, I also took my very first recruiting visit to UNC as an eighth grader.  Since then, the football program has grown a great deal, is in good hands, and is definitely headed in the right direction. I have a long-standing relationship with the staff and players that has never wavered. And, who doesn’t love Coach Mack Brown? This new journey will be special and I can’t wait to get to work. Not only is it a Great Day To Be A Tar Heel, but it’s great to be home!”"

It appears that Cowan saw all that he needed to when he visited Chapel Hill over the weekend. As he mentioned in his statement, North Carolina was his first-ever recruiting visit, so things have truly gone full circle for him during this process.

After losing out on him the first time around, the UNC football program got a second chance and certainly made the most of the opportunity.
