North Carolina commit Coby White scores season-high 46 points

University of North Carolina commit Coby White began last season as a relatively unknown, four-star recruit from a small town about 45 minutes outside of Raleigh.

Throughout the course of his junior season, White soared up recruiting boards thanks to his terrific offensive game and overall versatility. Within months of committing to North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and the Tar Heels, White climbed all the way into the 247Sports Composite top-25.

Having elevated his game and ranking, White finally started getting the attention that his game had been demanding for some time. The talented combo guard was embarrassing defenders all over the state of North Carolina, and becoming a household name among those acquainted with the high school basketball circuit.

Greenfield’s Saturday night game against Garner was just the latest example of White’s advanced offensive game.

The 6-foot-5, 170-pound guard set a Millbrook Showcase tournament scoring record with his season-high 46 points.

He did it on 15-of-25 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-11 from three-point range and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. White added 12 rebounds and four assists to his record-setting game, further demonstrating the terrific versatility that he’s become known for.

"“Big time players show up in big time moments and I live for those moments,” White told WRAL. “A lot of stuff wasn’t going our way so we had to find a way to score and I was just feeling it and I was hot tonight and my shots kept going in.”"

Despite White’s terrific performance, his Greenfield squad would drop the game to Garner by a final score of 94-76, falling to 6-4 on the season. White and his running mates will suit up again on Monday when they travel to Cape Fear Christian Academy.
