Late Night with Roy has been taking place at the University of North Carolina since head coach Roy Williams returned to his alma mater in 2003. The annual event marks the unofficial start of the college basketball season in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The spectacle will be held on Friday, October 13th at the Dean Smith Center, where it’s taken place each of the last 15 seasons.
Not only is Late Night with Roy a popular event for North Carolina basketball fans, but it also marks an important night for the team to recruit high school prospects. One of the Tar Heels’ top targets in the class of 2018, Romeo Langford, will be on hand to take in the evening’s festivities.
North Carolina players and coaches will be involved in singing, dancing and skits in front of a crowd interested in seeing the teams’ new faces and anxiously awaiting the start of basketball season.
For the main event, fans will get to watch an intrasquad scrimmage involving the entire North Carolina roster.
The event is free to the public and doors will open at 4 p.m. The North Carolina volleyball team will face off against Virginia Tech in the Smith Center at 5 p.m. Late Night with Roy will begin shortly after and feature both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Per GoHeels.com, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a mini replica 2017 NCAA championship banner. Men’s and women’s basketball posters and schedule magnets will also be available.
Fans who are unable to attend Late Night 2017 will be able to stream the event live on ACC Network Extra.
