UNC recruiting: Brandon Huffman climbs 247 Sports rankings
By Zack Pearson
Which class of 2017 UNC recruits climbed the final 247 Sports rankings?
The 2017 recruiting period is winding down as teams make their pushes to wrap up their classes.
Roy Williams and his North Carolina Tar Heels staff have in-home visits left with Kevin Knox and Garrison Brooks, two recruits that would help UNC’s class.
The Tar Heels already have four commitments in the class, landing Jalek Felton, Andrew Platek, Brandon Huffman and Sterling Manley.
Felton highlights the class, committing to UNC back in 2014 and is the nephew of former Tar Heels standout Raymond Felton.

As for the rankings, 247 Sports’ recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer puts out a list of rankings for recruits in the class. On Wednesday, he released his final list for the 2017 class including all Tar Heels recruits.
Huffman was the biggest riser for the Tar Heels in the latest rankings.
The 6-foot-9 center jumped 13 spots from No. 97 to No. 84 in the class. Huffman was ranked No. 204 in the initial rankings, making the big move due to his impressive play as of late.
Huffman is now a four-star composite recruit and gives UNC a big man in the post as they lose Isaiah Hicks, Kennedy Meeks and possibly Tony Bradley.
Like Huffman, guard Andrew Platek climbed the rankings.
Platek rose 18 spots from No. 182 to No. 164 and is a three-star composite recruit according to Meyer. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard had a nice night on Friday in the Jordan Brand Regional Game, pouring in 22 points.
The New York native should compete for minutes on UNC’s perimeter next season and could be that spot up shooter the Tar Heels need from three-point land.
Just outside of the top 200 sits forward Sterling Manley. The three-star recruit is a 6-foot-10 power forward and jumped 14 spots from No. 222 to No. 208.
Manley made his debut on the list at No. 263.
As for Felton, his drop in the rankings continue. The four-star combo guard is ranked No. 35 in the final rankings, down two spots. He debuted on the list at No. 27 but has consistently fallen in the rankings.
Then there is the two targets left unsigned for UNC.
Knox is still a five-star recruit but fell from No. 13 to No. 17 after being a top 10 recruit in the initial rankings.
Brooks, the former Mississippi State commit, is No. 136 on the list as he fell 11 spots.

Rankings don’t really mean a player will be great or not as we’ve seen numerous times where a recruit has been over and under ranked. It’s all on the player to see how their career turns out.
