The timing of Seth Trimble's return to action seems like the absolute perfect situation for the UNC basketball program.
It can't be understated how much the senior guard means to the Tar Heels, but one of his elite skills should greatly help the UNC basketball program on Saturday afternoon in the CBS Sports Classic.
Bruce Thornton is a STUD
Ohio State features one of the top scoring threats in the country, senior guard Bruce Thornton. The 6-foot-2 senior has put up insane numbers so far this season, averaging 21.8 points while knocking down 60.2% of his shots from the floor.
Yes, you read that correctly!
Thornton hasn't had a game this season in which he shot under 42.9% from the field. Typically a high-volume scorer, the Buckeyes make it their goal to get the ball in No. 2's hands, setting multiple screens and working other creative sets in order to do so.
If only there was an elite defender to shadow him... oh wait!
Trimble's back!
The Seth Trimble effect
Before his injury, Trimble received high praise for his effort on the defensive side of the floor against Kansas, a game in which he took on the assignment of guarding Darryn Peterson, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. While Peterson scored 22 points, it wasn't due to him finding easy shots. Every time Peterson pulled the trigger, Trimble was in the vicinity, leaving him little room to work with as he had to overwork to score the basketball.
With him returning to the lineup, you can expect Trimble to once again step up to take on this big assignment. Trimble is a player who takes a lot of pride in his effort on the defensive side of the ball, as he has the ability to be a major difference maker in his first game back.
Yes, that's a lot to ask from a guy who hasn't played since November 7. However, if anyone is capable of it, it'd be wise to place your bets on Seth Trimble to get it done.
