UNC Women's Soccer names Damon Nahas permanent head coach
Sometimes, making checklists to sort your daily tasks can be therapeutic.
It's always nice to cross an item off your checklist to show your progress. Makes you feel more productive. North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham, who is currentlymired in an unnecessarily difficult football coaching search, just scratched women's soccer head coach from his to-do list, and it was about as easy a task as you'll find.
Interim coach Damon Nahas, who just won the national championship over Wake Forest, got the interim tag scratched off his office door.
Nahas is well steeping in Carolina culture, and is already a staple of the UNC women's soccer program. He has been an assistant to Anson Dorrance since 2015, and was promoted to associate head coach in 2021. When Dorrance suddenly retired just prior to the start of the 2024 season, Nahas was elevated to interim head coach, while Bubba Cunningham presumably began a national search for a coach to take over the famed program.
That task is no longer necessary.
