The reason why the UNC football program doesn't have a head coach yet is...

It seems like there is a major internal power struggle going on in Chapel Hill.

At this point, the UNC football program's head coaching search has gotten dragged out to the point that we're all tired of hearing about it.

You may be asking: "why is it taking so long to find a head coach?!"

Well, the answer is simple: the grownups can't get along!

What do we mean by that? Well, Brian Murphy of WRAL Sports Fan provided a detailed look into the current situation, indicating that the search would have been wrapped up by now if it wasn't for... issues with board members.

To get a glimpse of what Murphy is talking about, check out the excerpt from his article below.

""A senior administrator said the process has been prolonged by, what was termed, antics of board members becoming involved in the process and causing confusion. The administrator indicated the process would have been wrapped up at this point if not for that.

Cunningham and Roberts are leading the search, but others, including members of the school's Board of Trustees, have a role. Cunningham said there is a small advisory group working on the hiring.

Board of Trustees chairman John Preyer was critical of how the firing of Brown was handled. Preyer and other board members criticized Cunningham and the financial health of the department at a public meeting and have pushed for a more aggressive posture in conference realignment.

ESPN reported that the search has been "scattered, according to sources, with an uncertainty in the industry about who is running it." ESPN reported Preyer is leading the charge for Belichick.""

Of course, we encourage you all to read the entire article (which can be found above). There's a lot of good information included.

Based on this small sample of it, the sense is that the UNC football program's head coaching search is simply a circus.

While the grownups continue to argue and banter over this decision, the state of the UNC football program continues to get negatively impacted. With the transfer portal opening up on Monday, it was a focal point throughout the search to have a coach in place by now, as the new coach has a lot of work to do this offseason and needs as much time as possible.

Unless a miracle occurs, this situation might drag out at least a little longer (if not more). Until the board members can figure it out, we'll continue to be at a standstill, which is certainly not good for the UNC football program by any means.

Why can't we all just get along and figure out a solution!
