For the second consecutive season and the 15th time in program history, the UNC women's lacrosse team is heading to the Final Four!

UNC clinches it's ticket to the 2026 Final Four

The Tar Heels took care of business at Dorrance Field on Thursday night, defeating Stanford to clicnch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament semifinals. They will now head to Chicago to take on Maryland in the Final Four for a trip to the national championship game on the line.

Defense was the key for the Tar Heels in the quarterfinals, as they caused 14 turnovers and forced 20 turnovers overall. Kaleigh Harden was outstanding, producing seven draw controls, seven caused turnovers and three groundballs.

Offensively, Chloe Humphrey and Addison Pattillo did what they do best: finding the back of the net. Both players recorded hat tricks, while both Caroline Godine and Eva Ingrilli had multi-goal games as well.

North Carolina took the lead early and basically just kept Stanford at bay, adding timely goals to make the Cardinal comeback effort unsuccessful.

With the win, UNC adds to its incredible record at home in NCAA Tournament contests. The Tar Heels are 35-4 while playing tournament games in Chapel Hill, as it's been nearly impossible to beat them on their home field.

Their 15 semifinal appearances are the third-most by any program in NCAA history. North Carolina looks to improve upon its 6-8 record in the previous 14 semifinal contests they've appeared in.

There's plenty of time to talk about Chloe Humphrey, but she once again did her thing. She now has recorded 36 hat tricks in just 41 games played, and became the sixth player in NCAA history to record 100+ goals in a single-season.

Final Four information

North Carolina will face Maryland in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals on Friday, May 22. The contest will be held in Evanston, Illinois, as the start time will be either 3 or 5:30 PM EST.

The Tar Heels are now just two wins away from reaching the goal they've had in place ever since they captured last year's national title.
