UNC women’s basketball battling two powerhouse programs for four-star Taylor Brown

Courtney Banghart and the Tar Heels are firmly in the mix for one of the nation’s most coveted point guards, but landing her commitment certainly won’t be easy.

Four-star Class of 2027 standout Taylor Brown has narrowed her recruitment down to three programs, with the Tar Heels battling women’s basketball powers Tennessee and South Carolina for her commitment.

The 5-foot-6 guard told Talia Goodman of Rivals the latest development in her recruitment. Rehabbing from an ACL injury hasn't slowed down her recruitment, as all three programs continue to bring the heat in trying to secure a commitment from her.

Ranked as the No. 20 overall prospect in Rivals' Class of 2027 rankings Brown has had plenty of official offers to sort through. Banghart and the Tar Heels jumped into the mix on May 27, 2025, extending a scholarship offer to Brown. Since then, UNC hasn't let up on its pursuit of Brown, and now is among a trio of finalists who would love to add her to next year's roster.

This upcoming weekend is a big one for Brown's recruitment, since she'll make her final scheduled official visit. After already seeing what South Carolina and Tennessee have to offer, Brown is making her way to Chapel Hill for this latest stop, a visit that could give UNC the final say in her recruitment.

Whoever is in charge of it, please have the Carolina blue carpet ready for this weekend!

Recruiting in the current landscape can be tricky. As teams sort through multiple layers, such as eligibility changes, the transfer portal, NIL funding, and other important aspects, high school recruiting can be tough to navigate, given that programs don't truly know what their roster will look like a year from now.

However, when a high school recruit catches your attention, college coaches will keep doing what they have done hundreds of times before: recruit that kid to play for you.

Banghart hasn't changed her stance on recruiting, recognizing the importance of blending veteran talent with younger players. That's why she hasn't taken her foot off the gas in recruiting, keeping her program in the mix for some of the top available prospects across the country.

While UNC doesn't fully know what its backcourt will look like this offseason, they do know it would love to have Taylor Brown in the mix of players who could make up next year's unit and beyond.
