UNC remains among elite company in the race for five-star Sydney Savoury

Sydney Savoury's official visit to Chapel Hill seems to have went well!

Of course, we're bias, but, what's not to like about "Blue Heaven."

Savoury, the No. 9-ranked prospect in the Class of 2027, has narrowed her recruitment to six programs, one that features an elite list of teams still involved.

The Belleville, Michigan native is now focusing on the following schools as her recruitment ramps up:

North Carolina
Notre Dame
Texas
UCLA
UConn
USC

While she already visited two of her finalists (USC on July 31 and UNC on August 28), the 6-footer also announced official visit dates for the other programs still involved.

In a statement provided to Shane Laflin of ESPN Women's Hoops, here's what Savoury had to say about this major announcement:

“I’m grateful to be in this position and appreciative of every program that has invested in me throughout the recruiting process,” Savoury said. “In this next chapter, I’m looking to continue to grow as a person and as a player that can compete at the highest level.”

Considered a lethal shooter, Savoury is a player who can beat you in a variety of ways. She has been on the national radar even before her high school career began, as programs started to recognize just how special of a talent she has dating back to her middle school days.

Fast forward to now, and Savoury has lived up to the hype and quite frankly has exceeded expectations as her future college decision looms over the next few months.

Courtney Banghart and the Tar Heels have been very active on the recruiting trail, consistently being strong contenders for some of the top high school talents available. Coming off a year in which they secured a commitment from Kate Harpring, the No. 1-ranked player in the Class of 2026, UNC has no plans to slow down now, looking to bring more five-star power to Chapel Hill to build around Harpring.

Of course, as is the case when recruiting elite players, you're going to be tasked with competing for their commitment against other top-tier programs who serve as very enticing options as well.

One thing is for sure: Savoury, whereever she commits, will be heading to an elite program. Her list of finalists is nothing short of impressive, an indication of just how special of a talent she is. This won't be an easy recruitment to win, but if anyone can do it, it's Banghart, the leader of one of the high-rising programs that the country has to offer.

North Carolina has been on the cusp of elite stature over the last few years, making two Sweet 16 appearances in a three-year span. The Tar Heels now are vying to go even farther during the 2026-2027 season, taking that next step they've been working tremendously hard toward.

While the on the court work continues, the efforts on the recruiting trail remain very strong, as North Carolina has become a popular destination for some of the best players (whether high school or via the transfer portal) who are looking for a great place to call home.
