The start time for Wednesday's game was one that was rather inconvenient for most Tar Heel fans.
With the Diamond Heels battling for a spot in the College World Series Championship series, fans had to alter their daily work schedules to accommodate the mid-afternoon first pitch. Fortunately, we all made it work, and so did the Tar Heels, securing a trip to the title series for the first time since 2007.
Now, the stage is officially set for the championship showdown, as North Carolina will battle Oklahoma in a best of three series that will start on Saturday.
Good news: Tar Heel fans will love the first-pitch time for the opening game.
College World Series Game 1 start time is a major win for Tar Heels fans
While some fans might have wished that Game 1 was during the afternoon (given it's being played on the weekend), the start time for the opening contest is right in prime time.
First-pitch in Omaha between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Oklahoma Sooners is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN.
The series is set.

While Saturday's game will be played in the national spotlight, Game 2 will have a different feel. Being played on Father's Day, the second game (and potentially the decisive game of the series) will begin at 2:30 PM EST and will be broadcasted on ABC.
What better way to spend Father's Day than to watch some Carolina Baseball!
If there is a need for a winner-take-all game on Monday, the game will once again be played under the lights. Tentative first pitch for a potential Game 3 is 7:00 PM EST.
Of course, there are pros and cons to the start times for each game.
For Saturday night, the good news is that fans can enjoy the day before settling in at night to watch the game. The bad news is that we all have to anxiously await first pitch all day long, as the nerves will be rising throughout the day as first pitch draws closer.
We all know how time can absolutely drag when we are waiting for a big game like this one!
Owen Hull makes eye-opening natty promise to UNC fans after taking down WVU
While some fans would've preferred an afternoon start time, it's probably best to play Game 1 at night, especially given the conditions that Charles Schwab Field presents. We've seen a few instances during the College World Series of how the shadows and sunlight impact the game, making it difficult for players to capitalize in certain situations.
By 8:00 PM EST on Saturday night, the sun should be down (or close to it), the lights will be shining bright, and both teams will simply be focused on playing baseball. You know that the UNC baseball program will be ready to rock and roll, as this is the goal they've been preparing for since they began practicing back in August.
Now, the final goal is in reach, it's time to go claim it.
