The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the opponents that the UNC basketball program will be facing this season, and the home slate of games is certainly going to capture some attention!
North Carolina will play seven ACC opponents only in Chapel Hill and another seven only on the road. Each ACC school will not play one conference opponent, as this year, the Tar Heels won't face off against Clemson.
If you're heading to the Dean Dome this winter, you're bound to see some top-tier opponents.

UNC's 2026-27 ACC Opponents
Home and Away (4 games): Duke, Louisville
Home Only (7 games): Cal, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, SMU, Stanford, Virginia
Away Only (7 games): Boston College, Florida State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
The Tar Heels will take on Duke and Louisville twice as part of their two "home-and-home" series, while hosting Cal, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, SMU, Stanford, and Virginia for games in Chapel Hill. North Carolina will hit the road to take on the likes of Boston College, Florida State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
Of course, playing Duke and Louisville, two of the premier teams in the ACC, twice is enticing, given it will give the Tar Heels multiple chances to show where they rank among the conference's best squads. Miami coming to Chapel Hill is also an interesting game on the slate, as Jai Lucas looks to build upon a successful first season as the head coach of the Hurricanes.
Fans will be happy to hear that both NC State and Virginia come to Chapel Hill this season, as the trip to Charlottesville is one that no one typically likes to see on the schedule. Last season, the Tar Heels went to Raleigh to take on the Wolfpack (a game that we won't talk about), so the hope is that this year's squad can earn some redemption for what went down during the 2025-2026 season.
5-star UNC target moving up in the ESPN rankings adds to his major hype
In terms of road opponents, the good news is that a West Coast trip isn't in the cards like it was a year ago. All three of the teams from out west (Cal, SMU, and Stanford), all come to Chapel Hill this season, which is great considering how last year's trip was one of the major disappointments of last year's slate of games.
Overall, the Tar Heels will once again face a competitive ACC slate, one that is definitely boosted by the teams who will visit the Dean Smith Center this winter. Obviously, it still makes no sense as to why UNC and NC State only play once, but hey, maybe the conference will figure that out at some point in the near future.
