Well, the wait to see if Dylan Mingo will actually be a Tar Heel has now come to a conclusion, one that many didn't actually see coming.

Yes, you read that right: North Carolina elected to part ways with the five-star point guard prospect. Both TarHeel247 and Inside Carolina confirmed that North Carolina elected to make this move.
It's been a nightmarish waiting game with Mingo throughout his entire recruitment. From his initial recruitment process, one that seemingly changed in terms of who the front-runner was on a daily basis, to the waiting game to see if he was going to stick around with the new staff in place, this was one that felt like it was going to end poorly, and that it most certainly did.
Let's face it: Michael Malone and his staff have work to do in the transfer portal. There's no time to waste, as they made their pitch to Mingo, one that doesn't seem like the five-star talent was interested in. Following another official visit to Chapel Hill on Friday, Tar Heel fans waited for news of his decision, which felt overly drawn out.
This shows that UNC was not willing to wait around for anyone, not even a five-star talent.
Could it be that Mingo and UNC didn't agree on his role right out of the gate as a freshman? Does Mingo want to team up with his brother, Kayden, something North Carolina might not have been fully on board with taking on? Did the finance side of things play a role?
There's plenty of factors that have played into this situation, but at the end of the day, Michael Malone and the Tar Heels were the ones who seemingly initiated this parting, not the other way around.
Sure, it's disappointing to hear, given that everyone was excited to see Mingo compete as a Tar Heel. However, the show must go on, and there must be other moves brewing in Chapel Hill that we are not yet aware of.
Stay tuned.
