The UNC football program is not only trying to add talent to its 2026 roster, but is also looking to bring in some familiar wide receivers for new quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. to throw to.

Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels accomplished this goal when they secured a commitment from wide receiver Trech Kekahuna, Edwards Jr.'s former teammate at Wisconsin.

Trech Kekahuna commits to North Carolina

After three seasons at Wisconsin, Kekahuna will look to wrap up his college football career in style while wearing Carolina Blue.

More on Trech Kekahuna

Promises weren't kept at Wisconsin, as Kekahuna was promised a bigger role for the Badgers leading up to the 2025 season. While he did set a new career-high in receptions (26), it wasn't the type of production that was expected from him, as he finished with just 211 receiving yards, 129 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Overall, Kekahuna recorded 55 catches for 614 yards and two touchdowns over three seasons with the program.

What this means for UNC

The UNC football program lost a lot of depth at the wide receiver position, as Jordan Shipp is presumably the lone key contributor returning from this positional group. North Carolina needs to bring in some veteran pass catchers who can not only add depth but can serve as key contributors in the offense, as Kekahuna is a guy who comes with a ton of experience and a familiarity with the guy who likely will be under-center come opening night in Ireland.

Now, the UNC football program has secured commitments from a pair of wide receivers. Kekahuna joins Jonathan Bibbs (Louisiana-Monroe) as the new members of the Tar Heels wide receiver room for the 2026 season.

With the addition of Kekahuna, the UNC football program has now secured seven transfer portal commitments during this cycle. More moves are likely to come, as North Carolina has plenty of holes they would like to address by acquiring some veteran talent.
