UNC secures a commitment from a playmaker on the offensive side of the football

Bobby Petrino should have a lot of fun deploying this talented wide receiver in his offensive system at North Carolina.

With the loss of some key wide receivers from last year's team, the UNC football program identified potential transfer portal fits that might help replenish the lost depth.

One of those potential targets was Jonathan Bibbs, a former Louisiana-Monroe pass catcher. After spending two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe, Bibbs aimed for a fresh start elsewhere, ultimately deciding (rather quickly) that Chapel Hill was the right place for him.

Jonathan Bibbs commits to North Carolina

Leading up to his official visit this weekend, reports (such as Inside Carolina) noted that it was likely Bibbs would commit before departing Chapel Hill if his visit went well.

Apparently, the visit went well, as Bibbs will now bring his talents to North Carolina.

More on Bibbs

A 6-foot-2, 175-pounder from Birmingham, Alabama, Bibbs redshirted during his first season at UL Monroe after appearing in four games.

The potential was shown on his lone catch that season, one that ended up being a 65-yard score against Auburn.

In his second season on campus, Bibbs made a larger impact, hauling in 26 receptions for 383 yards and three touchdowns. He also was a threat in the running game, rushing 11 times for an additional 58 yards.

What this means for UNC

With the loss of guys such as Kobe Paysour (who exhausted his eligibility) along with the likes of Paul Billups II, Chris Culliver, Javarius Green, Jason Robinson, Alex Taylor, Kenedy Uzoma (all of whom entered the transfer portal), the Tar Heels needed some additional depth at the wide receiver position.

Bibbs isn't just a depth piece. In fact, he's a potential multi-year contributor for the UNC football program's offense, as the Tar Heels believe he can be an impactful pass catcher for them for many years to come.

Transfer Portal Tracker

With the addition of Bibbs, the UNC football program has now secured the transfer portal commitments during this cycle. More moves are likely to come, as North Carolina has plenty of holes they would like to address by acquiring some veteran talent.
