Larry Brown is letting his thoughts be heard.
Brown, who played for the legendary Dean Smith at North Carolina and served as Smith's assistant for two years, is publicly calling for the school to retain Hubert Davis as coach. He, unlike most of the fan base, doesn't believe that a change is necessary at this time.
Hubert Davis replacement odds already out and UNC fans will love the favorite
Here is Brown's official statement, which was shared on social media by Seth Davis:
Brown's official statement
"I understand why North Carolina fans were disappointed with our loss to VCU, but people should remember that when Caleb Wilson was healthy, this team beat Ohio State, Kansas, Duke and Virginia and Kentucky on the road. If Caleb did not get injured, this team might be in the Sweet Sixteen. I believe Hubert Davis is the type of person and coach who should continue to lead our program. We have a great recruiting class on the way, and many of the current players want to stay to play for Hubert. I call on the North Carolina administration to do the right thing and allow Hubert to continue serving as coach."
Shouldn't serve as a surprise
Brown is old school in the fact that he, like others, still have faith in Davis.
An old school person, Brown sees Davis as the ideal man to lead the program. Of course he's going to point out some of the good factors that make Davis seem like the right guy for the job, but, he doesn't necessarily provide proven facts that some of the claims he makes are on the right track.
Stop listening to alumni
The university should care about its alumni. No one is saying that isn't important. However, when it comes to important decisions on the current state of the program, the decisions need to be made by the higher ups in charge who have a better grasp of what is actually going on.
Latest development has things looking gloomy for Hubert Davis' future at UNC
From the whole Carolina North debacle to this, it's nice to hear from alumni about their viewpoints, but, it shouldn't be the determining factor in future decision-making.
