The speculation is on as to who will be the next head coach of the UNC basketball program.

While a decision on Hubert Davis' future has not been made as of Sunday night, there's already discussions about who the top candidates may be if (and when) the job becomes available.

Latest development has things looking gloomy for Hubert Davis' future at UNC

Considered one of the top-tier jobs in the sport, it's expected that some elite coaches are going to be at least part of the process.

At this point, who do the Vegas oddsmakers have as the "favorites" at this point?

Current betting odds have UNC poaching one of the country's best

At this point in time, Florida's Todd Golden has the best betting odds to be named the next men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina.

UNC can't touch this potential Hubert Davis replacement with a 10-foot pole

Golden has +300 odds currently to land the job. He is trailed by Vanderbilt's Mark Byington (+400), Iowa State's TJ Otzelberger (+500), Alabama's Nate Oats (+600), Dusty May of Michigan (+700) and current Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan (+800) on the list.

"Keep it in the Family"

The betting odds don't favor those "within the family," as Sean May has the highest betting odds at +1000 (placing him as the seventh-highest on the list). Others with UNC connections included are Jerry Stackhouse (+1600), Jeff Lebo (+2000), King Rice (+2000) and Marcus Paige (+2200)

If this tells you anything, it's likely that the next head coach of the UNC basketball program will be an outside hire.

Realistically, who are "legit options?"

That is still to be determined.

While some of these guys on the list will be intrigued to hear what North Carolina has to offer, it's not guaranteed they'd leave their current spot to start over at another university.

5 realistic head coach candidates UNC should target if the Hubert Davis era ends

The coaches mentioned are on the list for a reason. They have built a brand for themselves as some of the elite coaches that the sport has to offer, and it might not be a lock that they pick up and head to Chapel Hill.

On the flip side, if North Carolina elects to make a change, expect them to at least have an idea that their guy (or short list of candidates) at least have some interest in interviewing for the gig.
